Nestled in the “heart of the Bitterroot Valley,” Corvallis, Montana, is one of the region’s oldest communities, dating back to the 1860s and originally known as Sunflower City before being named by settlers from its Oregon namesake (Corvallis, meaning “heart of the valley”). This agricultural hub, famed for establishing Montana’s first commercial apple orchard and the state’s very first school district in 1867, today retains its fertile heritage and tight-knit, family-friendly charm against the stunning backdrop of the Bitterroot and Sapphire Mountains. While unincorporated, Corvallis offers essential services, local businesses, a strong sense of community highlighted by its post-WWI Memorial Day Parade, and abundant outdoor recreation, all contributing to its desirable, tranquil yet connected lifestyle conveniently located between Hamilton and Missoula.
